Rockfon and ENBI: Sustainable Hold Down Clip for Demanding Indoor Environments
Rockfon is a leading supplier of acoustic ceiling and wall solutions, known for innovative products that deliver both functional and aesthetic value across diverse environments. From this alignment, we further development the medi-care block into the Hold Down Clip.
Transition from medi-care block to Hold Down Clip
The idea of the Hold Down Clip started with the desire to move away from traditional medi-care blocks. These blocks were used to keep ceiling panels in place, particularly in medical environments. With sustainability in mind, the product had to be further developed, so ceiling panels could be secured with reusable clips. Rockfon presented their proposed solution with a simple, makeshift prototype. Based on strict requirements for stability, hygiene, and material flexibility, combined with the need for sufficient compression strength, ENBI began developing a custom solution.
Pre-engineering and the importance of material selection
After defining all requirements, case studies on materials and production methods were conducted during the pre-engineering phase. In particular, selecting the right material required extensive trial and error. Finding a material flexible enough to bend and return to its original shape, yet strong enough to securely hold ceiling panels, is a major challenge. Thanks in part to SLA printing (stereolithography), different designs were quickly tested and evaluated until the final design was set.
Three variations, smartly packaged and ready for distribution
Ultimately, three variations went into production. The legs of each variant differ, allowing both thinner and thicker ceiling panels to be securely fastened. A unique part of the production process is that ENBI packages the clips in-house into convenient packs of 100 or 150, complete with Rockfon labeling. This allows the products to be distributed directly to wholesalers and be ready for installers to use.
A small product with a big impact on sustainability
The Hold Down Clip, though small and simple, plays a crucial role in improving overall performance while supporting the sustainability of Rockfon’s product range.
This project showcased ENBI’s “Unseen, yet essential” vision, where technical expertise and a commitment to quality and sustainability were key to the Hold Down Clip’s success.
Through close collaboration between Rockfon, ENBI, and suppliers, the Hold Down Clip became not just a technological innovation but also a showcase of how collaboration can create products that set new standards.
